NATIONAL PRAY DAY FOR SCHOOLS

Join with the nation in praying for our schools

Thursday 22nd September marks the National Pray Day for Schools. We would love for you to join us and others across our nation in praying for schools, staff and pupils. At the start of a new school year, there is much to remember and commit to prayer, below are some thoughts and ideas to guide you:

  • Pray for children of all ages as a new school year brings great change, whether starting at a new school, moving up a year, into higher education or the world of work.

  • Pray for children facing great uncertainty at this time, whether it be for health reasons, due major changes in their lives or as a result of the effects of the cost of living crisis.

  • Pray for teachers and other school staff who support students pastorally, may they have wisdom, understanding and discernment as they help children and young people navigate many different and tough situations.

  • Pray for children and young people who have moved to the UK from abroad as they settle into a new way of life. Remember particularly those for whom English is not their first language and therefore face additional challenges.

  • Pray for those in leadership within our schools as they make key decisions which affect individuals and schools as a whole. Consider pastoral issues, budgets, staffing, governance, policies and teaching.

Scripture Union have shared the following prayer suggestions:

  • Summer isn't always fun for everyone. Pray for those who have had difficult summers and who are starting the new school year anxious and already weary.

  • Pray for Christian children and young people, that they would be bold and confident as they witness their faith to their friends.

  • Pray for wisdom for teachers, support staff and leadership as they begin a new academic year.

  • Pray for those outside of mainstram education. That whatever their needs, they would be surrounded with people who will support and champion them.

  • Give thanks for the thousands of children and young people who attended holidays and events over summer. Pray that what they heard about Jesus would not be pushed to the back of their minds but rather that they see the world through a new lense, knowing Jesus is with them.
